Snow...in Houston?

Who said it doesn't snow in Houston? After a day of beautiful 70+ degrees we were in for a special treat. It was Wednesday, December 10th. I first heard the radio dj talk about snow in the area about an hour away, but I really didn't think much of it. I really didn't think it would be the kind to stick to the ground! I checked outside and nothing! About an hour later I noticed some small sleet or freezing rain. And finally just as we were getting ready to leave for Cubbies, small flurries began to fall. I still did not have high hopes it would accumulate. But, as the evening progressed it began to snow harder and harder and by the time we left cubbies, our car had a nice covering of snow as well as much of the grass and areas around the streets. We were able to do snowball fights with our friends and make a small, but significant snow man! It was so much fun and a special treat. We later warmed up with hot chocolate and let the girls stay up way past their bedtime. We even had snow on the ground till about noon the next day!

Our first family Gingerbread House!

The girls and I created our first family Gingerbread house this December! Nyah decorated her side one day and Keira decorated her's the next. They loved it and are very excited about their masterpiece! It's sure to become a family tradition around here.

Nyah and Mommy attend the Nutcracker Ballet

Grandma treated Nyah with a special ticket to the Houston's Ballet presentation of the Nutcracker. Mommy and Aunt Nell joined in on the fun! Nyah applauded with lots of enthusiasm throughout the evening, so I knew she was enjoying the ballet. About 30 minutes before it ended she started to fade, but I know it was a memorable evening that we will all not forget. She was able to get autographs from the sugar plum fairie, marie, the prince as well as other cast members at the end. When I asked her what her favorite part was, she just said "it was outstanding"!

Happy Thanksgiving in Fredericksburg!

We were back at our family tradition of traveling to Fredericksburg, Tx for Thanksgiving. Neysa's parents participate in the Country Peddler Show and the family enjoys a slow change of pace. The scenery is beautiful in the Hill Country and the town is nicely decorated for the Christmas season! On the way home we have a tradition of stopping in Johnson city were we visit Santa Claus, See dozens of trees decorated from head to toe in clear lights and ride a horse drawn carriage through the city. We saw the downtown lights and sipped on hot chocolate to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season - Christ's birth! It was a great way to spend time with family over the holiday.

New Due Date - June 1st

We found out today at our UltraSound that we are actually 2 weeks further along than we originally thought. So, our new due date is June 1st. That is wonderful considering there will be 2 less weeks of this "morning sickness" or is it "all day sickness"? Feeling very yucky, but that means a healthy baby right?!

Our Sweet Girls and their Sweet Shop

Happy Sweet Birthday Nyah and Keira! We postponed the party about a month due to the Hurricane, but we had the most beautiful weather and day! Grandma came over and helped me make dozens of cupcakes. We moved many of the playroom decorations out to our main living area to resemble a sweet shop. The kids had fun doing a scavenger hunt and bouncing on the bounce house. It was a great day and we were so blessed to celebrate with many wonderful friends and family!

Happy Birthday Mommy - Oct. 13th!

Yes, there are no pictures to accompany Mommy's birthday...hmmm - where's the love? I had a great and special day nonetheless! Billy took the day off after a week of travel and we had lunch and dinner together. It was a nice relaxing day.

Happy 5th Birthday Nyah - She gets to make her own Birthday Cake!

As a special treat, I let Nyah do everything from cracking the eggs, to putting on the icing for her 5th birthday cake. She loved getting to be a big girl, "for real" as she would say. It was strawberry with strawberry icing - her favorite!

Reminiscent of Uncle Matt:)

The moral of this story, don't leave the eggs too close to the counter! I really think my mom has a similar picture of my brother Matt around the age of 2 (or it's just etched in my mind). Although they both look guilty here, Keira is the culprit. It was totally worth losing nearly a dozen eggs for a great memory:)

The Eye of Storm - Hurricane Ike in Humble

In Mid-September, Hurricane Ike ripped through the Galveston, Houston area. We decided to stay in town even though it looked like the storm could pass right over us. Good friends of ours, Aubrey (9 mths pregnant) and her daughters, Avery and Rylan stayed with us since her husband was living in China. We all nestled away in our bedroom and put the girls on an air matrress in our closet (no windows there). Everything was going great...then the power went out:)...before the storm even made it's way to our house! As the evening went on the ripping winds against our windows were slightly terrifying. Fortunately the girls slept through most of the storm. I barely slept a wink till the eye came through. The picture in the right above shows us in the eye. It was eery to go from raging winds to complete calm. I don't know that I'll ever experience that again because I will probably leave town next time one looks like it's heading our way. We finally slept from about 6am to 8:30am. This was the back half of the storm. The next couple weeks our Humble area was in disarray. A couple families stayed with us in the evenings as they had no power for up to 15 days. It was an experience, but not one I'd like to go through again:)

Happy 2nd Birthday Keira!

We celebrated by going out to dinner for Keira's 2nd special day! What a big girl!

Sunday, July 20, 2008

Oh Keira!

Can you tell she's about to turn 2! Being covered in marker is a lot better than the not-quite as dark stuff I've found Nyah covered in around this age! I love being a mommy to these girls!

Our Orange Griesel...

Well, I can't say I ever thought we would purchase an Orange and Teal truck, but Billy's dreams came true with this one this summer. Billy's had in his mind to convert a diesel truck to grease burning since our friend Paul told us about his a couple years back. After you convert the vehicle it runs of vegetable oil waste (used vegetable oil from restaurants). Now to begin the process of conversion, gathering oil, draining the oil and purifying it, having our garage turn into the Crosby grease filling station and leaving a trail of french fry smell in our dust. Oh, I love you Billy!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

We celebrated Billy's birthday with his favorite (or mine?) a cookie cake! Happy 31st Birthday daddy!

Who's Your Daddy?

Billy wanted it to be known that we are not a fatherless family (as could be inferred from the picture below). So, please imagine his face peaking over the girls' heads and leaned against mine. It's so hard to get a family picture with everyone in it!

Being a mommy is HARD WORK

Here is my main inspiration for our blog! On April 30, 2008 I was driving Nyah to Cubbies after a dinner of pancakes and syrup. As we were driving she blurted out, "being a mommy is hard work! I need to start learning now how to do all that stuff. I'm going have to learn to make pancakes and chicken for dinner, drive my kids to cubbies, and clean clean clean...clean my car. It is hard work!" Although they don't know always know how to show appreciation and reward us for our hard work as mommies, this did the trick for me!

Crosby's have a blog

We had to try it out... Everyone talks about how easy this and it literally took less than 5 minutes to set up. I am so excited to have an "online diary" for our family.
